Prepare Your Meal Before Hitting The Mountains
One of our beginner hiking mistakes is not bringing enough food or in some cases, bringing too much food. The following meals are lightweight and can be prepared the day before. If you want to prepare even more in advance, you just need to add more dry ingredients.
We recommend storing the homemade food in a single zip lock bag because the last thing you want to do while hiking or backpacking is dirty pots and pans. Always use the heavy-duty or freezer zip lock bags as you are pouring hot water. For safety, please read the bag labels and ensure that they are intended for high temperatures.
Boiling The Water While Hiking
Bringing hot water on your hike or backpacking trip can be a hassle. However, you can simply bring a Thermos with hot water. This would help reduce the time it takes to boil the water. However, note that if you’re going on long hikes, the water may become cold.
Alternatively, you can boil the water in a small pot using a simple to make Soda Stove. This portable stove can boil the water in under 10 minutes and it’s really easy to make!
Packing Your Hiking Meal
Add all ingredients except the water to a quart freezer Ziploc bag. Seal bag and store until ready to use.
